Merry Mice Falala

As you can see from the title of this post I have another Christmas card to share starring one of the cute mice from the Merry Mice stamp set.  I've used the great sketch from the current challenge at Fab Friday as the basis for the card design.

Recently I picked up the retired Seasonal Frame Thinlits from the Stampin' Up! Clearance Rack primarily for the greetings, which includes the "falala" cut from Emerald Envy card stock.  I thought it was perfect to match up with the caroling mouse.  I {heart} this plaid pattern from the Warmth & Cheer designer series paper stack!  While the colors in the paper stack include Garden Green, this particular design had no green in it, so I chose to instead use the lovely Emerald Envy for this card.

To water color the mouse, I started by pressing the corner of a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad onto an acrylic block then used a wet paint brush to pick up some ink and color his pants.  Next I moved onto using Cherry Cobbler for the jacket and hat, and Emerald Envy for the scarf.  Chocolate Chip was used for the book of carols, and the mouse itself was colored with Crumb Cake, with a tiny bit of Flirty Flamingo for his nose and ears.  I didn't want to leave him floating in mid air, so I used  Sahara Sand to create some ground underneath, then added a bit of a shadow with Smoky Slate.  Last I added a light "glow" with some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.

Since I'll be mailing this card, I want to keep it relatively flat and embellishments to a minimum.  I added some enamel dots that don't seem to have the same issue of moving or falling off as jewels and sequins do.  But I did add a small bow of 3/8" Silky Taffeta ribbon in Emerald Envy.  Although not visible in the photos, I painted clear Wink of Stella over the greeting and on the "snow flakes" and musical notes around the mouse.

I've added the Fab Friday sketch and a link to the blog.  Be sure to head over there and enjoy all the amazing inspiration!

Thanks for visiting!

Stef
